The Watchman

In pre-colonial Africa, Kingdoms built watchtowers as observation points to guard and observe the happenings in a kingdom and to watch out for any threats. These towers were manned by soldiers, called watchmen. Their end of day reports to the King/Queen and their governing officials were used to keep abreast of the workings of the kingdom, and they provided advice on what needed to be done to improve differing situations.

It is this kind of thinking that informs and necessitates this blog. Regular and guest writers from across the African continent will contribute to issues that propagate and inform around democratic socialism, positive masculinity and worker's issues. These issues highlighted speak to the guiding ethos of this site which is to create an African continent on the foundation of democracy, equality (feminism) and socialism.

We live in a time where Africa is defining itself on the democratic front, where men have the opportunity to embrace and forward feminism and workers' rights and contribution to Africa is vital.

ALUTA CONTINUA

The Struggle Continues

This is a literary fiction short story collection detailing the experiences of leading activists, movements and the military in the fall of the Zimbabwean dictator, Robert Mugabe. The blatant use of power of the gun by the military, a dying dictator holding onto power, women standing up for equality and their dreams, radical and hopeful activists marching on the streets, and an angry youth demanding a different future by fighting the present and past is seen through the experiences of different characters. The collection gives the reader the opportunity to question whether the fall of Mugabe has led to the end of tyranny in Zimbabwe or the renewal of it with a different face. This book captures the story of a nation in perilous times within its pages which ultimately adds another chapter in the journey that Africa is on as a continent towards establishing greater, stronger democracies for its people.
